Our drug laws are archaic and racist and it’s time for major reforms. Mel supports an approach that prioritizes treatment, not jail. As we work towards comprehensive criminal justice reform, we need to change the status quo of both policing practices and prosecutions.


As an important start, Mel supports legalization of marijuana, both as a valuable source of revenue in the face of federal budget cuts, and as a step toward creating drug laws that prioritize real dangers and limit racist implementations.
